Dry VAE polymers can be used to reinforce cellulose. VAE polymers in a blend with PLA have proven to be compostable, depending on grade and end product, it has good potential to fullfill biodegradeable, biobased and other sustainable requirements.
Dry VAE polymers (Dispersible Polymer Powders)
Dispersible VAE Polymer Powders can be used as additives based on homo-, co- or terpolymers of vinyl acetate. VAE/PVAC and terpolymers makes materials such as starch, polylactic acid (PLA), polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), polybutylene succinate (PBS) and cellulose acetates (CA) compatible with one another. This allows the formulator to adjust the physical properties precisely according to requirements.
Improved Physical Properties
Depending on the amount and type polymer added, the polymer blends have higher impact strengths and better melt stability or are more flexible than the pure biopolymers.
No Limitations on the Main Features
The blends are compatible with biobased and/or biodegradable pure biopolymers. VAE is already available as 50% biobased on mass balance, and will be nearly 100% biobased based on massbalance in the feature.
Suitable for food contact.
Most VAE Polymer grades are suitable for use in food-contact applications.
Easy processing
With dried vae dispersion polymers, biopolymers can be processed just like standard thermoplastics. VAE makes injection molding, extrusion, vacuum forming, thermoforming and calendering much easier.
